Michael Cox is beaten by fellow Boston police officers.

January 25, 1995

Working undercover, Cox is mistaken for a fleeing fugitive after a shooting at Walaikum’s Burgers at 491B Blue Hill Avenue. After none of the officers involved are subsequently disciplined (one who pursued the actual fugitive is subsequently convicted of lying to a grand jury for saying he did not witness the beating), Cox brings a suit against the Boston Police Department and the city, which results in some of the officers being disciplined and results in a multi-million settlement for Cox, who remains on the force, rises through the ranks, and, after becoming a police chief in Michigan in 2019, is appointed Boston police commissioner in 2022.*
